NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION: TRAVEL MORE, MORE OFTEN?

Now that we’ve all recovered from the post-holiday blues (hopefully… 😰), there’s no better time than now to start planning that next adventure (or two) for 2025! Just like last year, we’ve got plenty of diverse destinations to choose from, and plenty of unforgettable experiences to be had. So, if one of your New Year’s resolutions was to travel more, more often: you’ve come to the right place. And it seems like we share the same resolution as you for wanderlust… 🧳🗺️ 

Let’s get into a few Detours trips extensions that we’re looking forward to as we start the year… 🛫  

Amazon 

Maybe you’re not quite ready to go home after your 10-day trip through Peru, and you want to experience the beauty (and diversity) of the world’s largest rainforest, the Amazon (often referred to as the lungs of the world).  

We know what you’re thinking. “Why would I venture into a rainforest where seemingly all the flora and fauna can send you to the other side?” 🕊️💀 

We hear you — the Amazon is home to bugs the size of your hand and snakes as big as 30 feet long. (We’ve all seen the movie Anaconda)! But often the creatures of the Amazon are more scared of you than you are of them. Maybe read this blog post to prepare yourself mentally and physically before the adventure. The local guides we’ve arranged will make sure you're safe from the tarantulas, venomous snakes, poisonous frogs, toxic vegetation, and those large jungle cats! 🕷🐍🐆 

You’ll be set up with beautiful accommodations at the IKAM Riverview Amazon Lodge, so you won’t have to worry about pitching a tent and spending the night amongst the mosquitoes and other creatures.  

But hey, maybe that’s something you want to knock off your bucket list, and who are we to stop you? Although we wouldn’t recommend it. 😅 

As you can imagine, getting to the Amazon probably isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but as always, we’ve got you covered with our signature guaranteed departures. We’ve planned it all out for you, including roundtrip road and boat transfers between the lodge and the Puerto Maldonado airport.  

This self-guided tour will give you a chance to get outside your comfort zone and experience this natural wonder of the world first-hand. A place that is becoming more and more threatened as our modern world continues to be at odds with the importance of the natural world.      

We hope we didn’t scare you with all this talk of the dangers of the Amazon… remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger; and every new destination makes you a more refined and well-travelled gentleman. So why not give the jungle a chance?! 🌴🤷‍♂️🌿 

South Korea 

Anyone that went on one of our trips to Japan last year knows that Asia is a feast for the senses and is incredibly rich in culture and modernity (and of course, incredible food!). 🗼🍜🏯    

South Korea is no exception. Maybe not as visited (or popular) as its neighbour to the East. South Korea doesn’t lack in its own charms and natural beauty. South Korea will leave you feeling overwhelmed, in the best way possible. It still fuses tradition and innovation in its own unique way. 

If you don’t think you’ll find yourself in Asia anytime soon (or maybe you’ll be coming back very soon, after you’ve gone on one of our trips), you can always extend your trip by expanding your trip to Asia with Detours South Korea extension. Why not spend an additional four nights and three days in the bustling metropolis of Seoul? You won’t regret it!

Seoul is a booming metropolis, like Tokyo, and another place to get lost in. We’ll experience the culinary delights that Korea is known for; from Korean BBQ, fried chicken, kimchi, bulgogi, bibimbap, and so much more! Foodies will have their hands (and belly’s) full from all the delicious offerings…  

After Japan and Korea, you might need to pencil in a few more gym sessions when you finally get back home... 🤣 🏋️‍♀️ 

Also, for anyone who doesn’t know, South Korea is a global leader when it comes to pop culture. From Gangnam Style to BTS and Blackpink (aka K-Pop), to Squid Games, fashion, skincare, and so much more. We’d be remiss if we didn’t touch on the pop culture juggernaut that is South Korea. 

This trip will also feature a visit to the DMZ (demilitarized zone) where you can get a glimpse of its illusive neighbour to the North. Whatever you do, just don’t make a run for it! 

South Korea has so much to offer, and we couldn’t recommend it more! For the history buffs out there, you can check out a brief history of Korea to get a sense of its unique past to better understand its vibrant present. 🤓
