Extend your Wanderlust: Jordan, Italy, Finland & Estonia

If you read our last blog post, you know we can’t wait to make 2025 a year of travel wanderlust! This year we’d love you to join in on the fun and create an unforgettable travel year for yourself, regardless of which Detours trip you choose. Because we all deserve something amazing to look forward to this year.
This includes getting out of your comfort zone and exploring diverse destinations while having unique experiences along the way. And what better way to do that than extending your trip a little longer…
Detours offers extensions that are "self-guided," meaning we coordinate the tours, set you up with the local guides, and work out the details; but our trip leaders won’t be along for the ride. That’ll be you!
Don’t worry, you’ll still be paired up with any Detours travellers who choose to join the optional extension. Maybe you’ll tap into that inner tour guide… just don’t miss us too much, while you’re off gallivanting at your next destination! 😉✌️
Having all the trip details covered creates flexibility so you can enjoy more of the travel and less of the logistics.

FINLAND & ESTONIA
Now that you’ve checked Denmark, Sweden, and Norway off your bucket list on the 11 Days in Scandinavia trip, keep your pencil out because now you can add modern Finland (and its old-world Baltic neighbour Estonia) to your list. 📋
Hop on an overnight cruise from Stockholm to Helsinki and spend three nights in the capital of the Happiest Country on Earth (in a 5-star hotel, no less). If you’re not a boat person, don’t worry. You can catch a quick flight over from Stockholm to Helsinki instead.
Enjoy a classic Finnish sauna, guided city tours, and chance to explore Helsinki’s vibrant downtown center. Next hop on a two-hour cruise for a day trip to the Estonian capital of Tallinn and check one more country off your bucket list.

ITALY
Eight days in Italy might be too much of a tease considering the endless sights, sounds, and flavours “the boot” has to offer. We don’t doubt you’ll experience a little taste of La Dolce Vita while you’re there, but maybe you want to spend a few days in Rome before the Detours trip kicks off, or tack on a few extra nights in the iconic floating city of Venice with these Italian extensions.
There’s never a bad time to be in Rome… this two-day, pre-trip itinerary allows you to skip the lines for a private tour of Vatican City (minus the vault, of course) and explore the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museum from a gay perspective. The next day you’ll go on a guided walking tour of Rome and see famous sights like the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spagna Square, and much more along the way!
You've also got the option to experience “the Floating City,” Detours offers a three-day, post-trip extension trip to Venice. After departing from our Tuscan castle and connecting through the Florence train station, you’ll arrive to Venice where you'll stay three nights in the historic centre at the Duodo Palace Hotel. Enjoy a walking tour with local guides, tickets to the Palazzo Grimani, and tour of Murano and Burano by boat.

VICTORIA FALLS
Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya) is a wonder that has to be seen with your own eyes. The world’s largest waterfall, stretching two kilometers wide, is a natural treasure of both Zambia and Zimbabwe, and one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Victoria Falls is an extension of our South African tour and this ecological marvel (and the surrounding areas) is a feast for the eyes. 😍
Your African extension features three nights at the Shongwe Guest Lodge (or similar), private airport transfers within Zimbabwe, entrance fees to all parks listed, a two-hour sunset cruise down the Zambezi River, guided tours, and more!
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can’t add some excitement by bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge, swinging through the Batoka Gorge, white-water rafting down the Zambezi River, or taking a helicopter for an aerial view over the falls. 🚣🚁
Of course bike tours, kayak rides, or rest and relaxation are also in the cards. You decide what works best for you…
JORDAN
If you didn’t get enough of the old-world charm of Egypt, a five-day, four-night extension to Jordan is a great way to explore the vibrant culture of the neighbouring Middle East. Complete with a visit to the ancient wonder of Petra, the stunning desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, and weightless beauty of the Dead Sea.
And of course, as is accustomed with Jordanian hospitality; expect to be greeted with “ahlan wa sahlan” (welcome) on a regular basis.
You’ll be accompanied by a local guide for the entire trip extension, including a few desert delights like a jeep safari and a camel ride (for good measure), and a night in the vibrant capital of Amman. Plus, unique accommodation at four different hotels. 🐪
Jordan is certainly a bucket list destination, and an increasingly popular tourist destination that you have to see to believe.
