Itinerary

Day 1

Check out of our hotel in Cairo on the final day of your Egypt group trip and jump on the short (and included) 1-hour flight to Amman.  You'll land in the capital city of Amman where you'll be picked up from the airport and taken to your hotel on the bank of the iconic Dead Sea, your home for the night.  You'll be joined by any group members from your Egypt group trip who have also chosen to add this extension. 

After settling in, make your way down to the water just steps from your hotel to experience the feeling of weightlessness that comes with the Dead Sea's hypersaline waters, then smear some therapeutic mud on you to soak in all the minerals that are believed to be jam-packed full of health benefits. As you bask in the sea, you'll also be enjoying stunning desert vistas in every direction.  An unforgettable experience, that's for sure!

Day 2

The Dead Sea is all about relaxation and rejuvenation so take your time getting moving this morning and maybe even take another dip and mud-cleansing before heading out on the 3-hour drive to Petra with your fellow Detours group members and local guide.  Your next unforgettable site in Jordan awaits you in the Wadi Musa Valley.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Petra is a mesmerizing ancient city carved into rose-red cliffs.

Day 3

Wake up this morning with a fabulous breakfast at your hotel before heading out to explore Petra's intricate rock-cut architecture revealing the fascinating history of the Nabateans who built the city around the 3rd century BC.  You'll walk through the narrow Siq to behold the iconic Treasury, explore royal tombs, and marvel at the vast amphitheater. Petra's mystical allure and archaeological wonders make it a must-visit destination for history and adventure enthusiasts alike.

You'll enjoy the vast site of Petra for most of this day, then, once you've had time to soak it all in, you'll continue south to the mesmerizing desert landscape of Wadi Rum which captivates with its towering sandstone mountains, vast red sand dunes, and dramatic rock formations. Known as the Valley of the Moon, you'll explore the desert by jeep safari and a camel ride by day before settling into your modern bubble-style accommodation under incredibly clear desert skites, perfect for some of the best stargazing imaginable.  A visit to Wadi Rum is an otherworldly experience that's a must when exploring Jordan, even if you're not drawn here by all the Hollywood movies that have used the area to film many blockbuster movies!

Day 4

You'll wake up in your beautiful desert bubble home, gaze out at the vast desert before you, then it'll be time to pack your bags and head on a scenic drive back north to the capital city of Amman for your final night together.  Amman, Jordan's capital, blends ancient history with modernity. It boasts ancient ruins like the Citadel, vibrant markets, delicious cuisine, and a dynamic cultural scene amidst stunning desert landscapes.

You'll check in to your hotel tonight, located in the trendy Wadi As-Seir neighborhood, in the heart of Amman.  It's your last evening together with your local guide and your fellow Detours travelers after exploring two very unique countries in the region and this night will surely be spent enjoying your final dinner while reminiscing about all the adventures you've shared together!

Day 5

You'll want to ensure you book your departing flight on this final day of your trip from Amman (airport code AMM). Your departure airport transfer from your hotel to the airport is included in this trip so just ensure you've provided your flight details to us and we'll get that arrange for you.  Until next time!
