Meet Our Team: Shane!

It all started with a cocktail. Well, to be honest it was probably just a cheap beer or whatever I drank in those days. But it was a night I'll remember for the rest of my life. I’d known Miles for a while at this point but at this particular party we'd go on to have the conversation that would change my life forever. He was telling me about this company he’d started up and so naturally I jumped up and down with excitement and suggested (quite firmly) that if he needed trip leaders once this company grew a bit, to think of me.

At that point I’d spent almost all of the previous 12 years working and traveling my way around the world in pursuit of adventure, so I was ready to take that experience to the next level. I couldn't have been more excited when I got the call from Miles to join Detours, and the rest, as they say, is history. I'm now entering my 6th year leading trips and 4th in Operations, and I feel like we're just getting started.

I'm obsessively grateful. Every day I pinch myself, I'm living the dream. And as if that wasn't enough, I get to share it with others, all types of people from all over the world, all the time. This isn't new to me (constantly moving about, meeting people), my parents moved us around 18 times before I graduated high school. No reason, just because. And it didn't stop there, I moved overseas by myself when I was 19 and continued the wanderlust well into my thirties. Always taking the road less traveled, my journey would lead me, naturally, to where I am today.

I'm incredibly fortunate to have seen and experienced so much of the world, and along the way I’ve learned that my true passion is to share the adventure with others. To be the one to guide you, encourage you, push you out of your comfort zone, immerse you in new culture and tradition, celebrate your success, and laugh with you every step of the way. It's incredible! I look forward to sharing my next adventure with you :)
